As the COVID-19 vaccinations reach critical mass, we'll be fighting a fourth virus outbreak in the coming months.
The increase in cases is the result of our premature relaxing of our duties to delay the spread of the virus, and evidence that mask-wearing and social distancing are successful.
When a virus replicates or repeats itself, it sometimes varies slightly, as is common for a virus. Mutations are the name for these shifts. A “variant” of the original virus is a virus that has one or more additional mutations.
The quicker we can slow the spread, the less opportunity the virus has to mutate. Unfortunately, we are about to give the virus another round to mutate further, ensuring we’ll be dealing with this pandemic for years to come.
