Sonder is the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness.
You are living in an epic story and everyone around you has a story of their own with internal struggles hiding behind masks in fear of revealing their true thoughts and emotions. Finding sonder is a process of realization and practice. The more you practice, the more you see others the way you'd like to be seen—giving you the ability to truly experience empathy.
It becomes clear when you realize everyone has an impulse to make things better, to connect and to contribute. Everyone is afraid. Everyone realizes that they are also lucky. That everyone is lonely, insecure and a bit of a fraud. And that everyone cares about something. Everyone wants something that they can't possibly have. And if they could have it, they'd discover that they didn't really want it all along.
